How to Make News Old and Boring

The Preview Establishment now says that they ordered surgical strikes too, but did not resort to chest thumping. Very nice. But why not? Why didn't you? By the looks of it, you should have. People seem to like it. These are the days of media. Being on the news for the right reasons. Something my Mumbai punters would call 'show shining'.

Any Establishment takes advantage of the media in many ways. One is to highlight achievements.

Highlighting Achievements

Nothing new here. All kinds of companies, firms, NGOs and organisations do that. States too advertise achievements, Exaggerating their achievements! However, the other kind of media usage is becoming more popular. That is to make news disappear. The trick here is to fade the news rapidly as time passes. News becoming old and obsolete is bound to happen until an effort is put in to keep it afloat.

How to make News disappear?
The media talks about insignificant things, blow then out of proportion so that the awkward story would become just a ribbon on the screen or be buried somewhere inside the paper before it disappears.

This aspect has now evolved into making news rather than picking up random news items to blow up.
The bigger the news item, the more significant the news that is buried inside. This may have happened before, but we are noticing it now. Or maybe it is just wishful thinking.

The Art of creating News

Gone are the days of some poor laborer's child falling into a tube-well made news on national network. Today we have news like men being killed in an encounter days before they are too be released. An Islamic preacher being targeted because some people happen to be his fans and committed crimes. MP seems to be notorious for creation of News. Land mafia actually killed people being transported to a jail. And of course the latest being SIMI activist who had no reason to run, broke out of jail and were killed in an encounter some hours later.

At times like these, you read between the lines. What happened when this news was airing?
What could be so terrifying that someone could go to such an extent to veil this news?
